Glazed Carrots...

...and store bought ice cream for dessert. It is all because of Paula's Friday post. She was talking about household organization. I'm a stickler for everything in its place, but I still hadn't done a spring cleaning for 2007. Regular cleanings, yes. Thorough, not in a couple of years. I went overboard.

I loaded the pockets of Gaylen's apron with old socks, glass cleaner and furniture polish (yes, old white cotton socks are awesome). Except in the playroom, I starte
d at the ceiling, with the long handled ostrich feather duster, cleaned the ceilings and edges, corners of the rooms, draperies and toppers, the changed to the lambswool duster and cleaned all paintings, pictures, lampshades and windowsills. Washed windows and mirrors, dusted, sat and congratulated myself for getting through the first third of the work. (For the record, my house isn't little. I have a family of 11, remember). Then I started moving small furniture and flipping over sofas. Swept under the heat and around the edges with a straw broom, vacuumed under everything, replaced it all and vacuumed the spaces that belong open. For the record, I did NOT move the piano or the dining room table. Also for the record, when I was about 1/3 finished, my girls found me moving furniture, went ballistic, and started moving it for me, enlisting their big brothers after a while. Believe me, with a bad hip and leg, I needed all the help I could get. So, Saturday night and Sunday I wasn't moving too well, and not cooking ambitiously, but thanks to Paula, my house sparkles. And the kids ordered pizza on Saturday night because I was too tired to hate it and protest, so they're all happy.

Edited to add: I've never before flipped all of the furniture in my house, and I don't plan to do so again. Also, I don't wash the outside of my windows. I'm not afraid to climb, but I won't waste my time washing the outside of windows when it's going to rain again very soon and just dirty them.

Sunday night's dinner was a don't stand up to cook sort of deal. Turkey breast, heart attack potatoes, whole green beans and glazed carrots. Carrots are my puny offering to you for today. I promise a new kind of cake tomorrow or Wednesday.

GLAZED CARROTS

1 pound carrots, peeled and sliced thin
1/4 cup butter

1 tbsp water
2 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp salt

Melt the butter with water, stir in the honey and salt. Add the carrots, stir to coat, and cook over low-medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes, until the carrots are tender and coated with glaze. Expect no leftovers.

Isn't it terrible that after all your glorious homecooked meals the kids rejoice over pizza?

Ben does the same thing.

I'll have to try your recipe. I use butter and ginger, but I think the Knight would like your recipe better...

Oh. My. Lord!!! That is a BOATLOAD of cleaning all at once. Man oh man, I bet it looks great! Uh, one thing though, your sister in law would insist you really are a Stepford wife with that sparkling of a house! In any event, I'm even more inspired now, and I'm going to use your sock tip. I have a bunch that don't have mates, so this will be perfect. Hmmm, and they should fit the kids hands just as well as mine! hehe I'm concerned to hear your hip and leg are still acting up. Plus, just one day after all that cleaning, you prepare a huge Sunday night meal. There were four things on that plate!!! I like your carrots, especially sliced thin like that. Perhaps my picky eaters would try them that way. We'll find out! PS: Please send back the sun and heat! :-)

After reading everything you did, I am too exhausted to comment. You wore me out!

I have the girls doing a little at a time. I had them cleaning out drawers and closets last week. This week we're wiping down doors.

I need to eat these delicious looking carrots so i have the energy to click "publish your comment" = )

Wow! I've had "dust bedroom" on my list for a week now, and I just keep moving it from one day to the next.
