Garden Tuesday: A Hint of Sun

It's been pretty dark and dreary here for days. I didn't think I'd get any outdoor pictures. Then, lo and behold! The sun came out for about 12 minutes around 6 last night.

This is Thor's corner of the yard. He loves it here. The peek of red beyond the trees is our swingset. While the kids are all too old for it, I'm a sentimental fool. The swingset stays.

And, while the boys and Thor have been unable to enjoy the great outdoors, we enjoyed Ryan's leaf chromatography experiment last week. From left, maple, oak and plum leaves, cut up and doused in rubbing alcohol, with coffee filter strips to catch the color coming out of them. A reminder that the leaves will soon be but a memory, and Thor will cry about going outside in the cold.

I agree with Channon. Plum is a lovely color. Reminds me fall is here, at least in other parts of the U.S. Texas doesn't have much colors during fall. This is the time I miss my hometown the most. =(

It took me years to finally say good-bye to the swing set, "old sentimental fool" that I am. Not only did it hold many memories, my late husband built it when the kids were little. I finally donated it to a day care center when I sold the house. They came and removed it and to this day, it is still there!!!

I never knew about extracting colors from leaves. Very cool...

your photo mimics the colors of the experiment - it is a really nice picture.

Thor needs some mittens for his paws. And the swingset can stay for future grandbabies!

I hope that Mother Nature cuts you (and Thor) a break so that you can enjoy Fall colors this year. I love that you still have a swing set. All of my kids still love to go hang out at the park and climb all over everything. Just yesterday, my youngest and I were talking about how she learned how to pump her legs while swinging. Sigh. I'm all sentimental now.

poor Thor. It was in the mid 40's this morning and Scout didn't want to go out to the powder room either.

You're really creative in more ways than one!

Poor darling Thor. I guess a Thor sized litter tray is out of the question? He needs some winter boots.

Incredible colours, what a fun science lesson

Poor Thor has such a short period to play outside. Summer is too hot and rainy and winter is too cold. My tsar is loving this cool fall air, especially the mornings. He just sits on the hill for hours watching the birds.

I know, we finally saw the sun after days of rain and it seemed so weirdly bright out!
