This hit me really hard. Yes, I know I've sent 8 other kids off to college, but this is my baby. There are no more children behind him. This is a really bittersweet time for us.
Cass lives less than 4 miles down the road from Mark's college, so she came to help settle him in and cheer him on (and she took him to Target on Sunday to get a couple of things he had forgotten....what a girl!).
There is a huge oak tree right outside his window, which makes his room really pleasant; you can see it behind us. Cass talked him into moving the beds around (he needs the extra long bed, which is a special request) so he had the "better" side of the room; we set up his bed, put his mug on his shelf, and set off for lunch.
Mark's not much of a talker; still, it's awfully quiet around here. And I really don't know how to cook for only 2 or 3 people. My dearly beloved might find himself eating leftovers until I get this worked out. Meanwhile, it's a blue Monday here in our little corner of the world, as our baby starts on the rest of his life.

It's also a new stage in your life so now is a great time to start a new hobby or get more into your sewing and or photography. You have some new little grands to sew for.
Oh Marjie... I can only imagine how hard this is for you. Meg starts high school next week and Chase starts 7th grade. GULP... time flies way too fast. I am sure the house is quiet after raising 9 kids in there! I am glad Mark is settled in and ready to start this new path and glad his sister is nearby. I am also happy you have new grand babies to play with!!
I remember Mark starting high school - I must have been reading for many years. This must be incredibly tough for you both, how lucky those grandchildren are coming along behind- perfect timing and one of teh many joys of a big family. Good luck Margie a new stage of life.
He sure is tall. After sending off nine kids, I can imagine some real empty next feelings for a while, but they still seem to be there a lot.

Congratulations to Mark. I started Calvert in 2006 and remember your posts of your two youngest sons on the old forum. My oldest was in the K curriculum but you were talking of the boys' experience in reading (Come Read w Me) and being very good in math. My oldest is at IUPUI (Indiana/Purdue) but I still have two in Calvert (7th and 4th) some of the old classic literature was removed but the older boys encouraged the younger brother to read their copies. My middle son especially loves King Arthur and watching Camelot performances w me. He feels in the back stories. Calvert to thank for the introduction.
oh, my heart aches for you! although it's all positive stuff that's happening, i know you're missing him. i hope you whittle down your recipes. :)
