This is a cookbook Mark found for me at a used book sale about 4 years ago. To be fair, the title has always intimidated me.
"Fantastic desserts"? I'm in. "Extravagant trifles, truffles, tarts and more"? Well....I need fast and relatively simple, not extravagant.
But...here goes. The table of contents shows a little bit of everything.
There are pages upon pages of hints and how-tos, which is nice. Fun to read, even if you don't need it.
In season right now: frozen desserts! Including a low fat orange sherbet. I might try that one, or maybe wait until my dearly beloved is either (a) bored with his diet, or (b) decides he's lost enough weight to splurge now and again (he's dropped 10 pounds of the 25 he wants to lose, thanks to the cardiologist telling him what I've been trying to tell him).
Bar cookies! Who doesn't love a good bar cookie? And they are easier than the regular kind!
The instructions for this cake are daunting, filling 2 pages. This is what I mean: extravagant doesn't work for me. There are other things to do.
But the boys might like these.
And, for Louise: Peanut Butter Cups! (Fair disclosure: I love peanut butter cups, too.)
There are even fruit desserts for those of us who want a lighter sweet treat.
So, thanks to Louise for prompting me to pull this cookbook off the shelf! There are things in here that won't take all day to prepare, after all!
This is Cookbook Wednesday, hosted by Louise! Hop on over to check out the others who have linked up with her, look at her cookbook giveaway, and find out about signing up for the Picnic Game! Happy Wednesday, everyone!

I'll take the peanut butter cups too!
Oh, I love that cookbook. So many choices. Thanks for posting!
You know Marjie, I've seen this book before but passed over it, why I'm not sure. It looks like there are some interesting recipes and one can always use new tips and hints:)
Mark has a good eye, a very good eye since there are you know whats included, lol...I'll share, Pam:)
I usually skip over two page recipes too. If there is that much explaining to do, chances are I'll mess up some how!
Congrats to hubby for losing that weight. I think he deserves lots of treats, but don't tell him I said that, lol...
Thank you so much for linking up to Cookbook Wednesday Marjie. Now I know not to pass up this book again!!!
P.S. Sorry so late today, another day of doctors and hospital visits for Marion. Thank goodness she didn't have to stay, whew!
i prefer to have cookbooks with LOTS of pictures, though i know that doesn't necessarily mean they're better. this looks like a good one...i can appreciate anything dedicated to my favorite course! :)
Hi Marjie, looks like a great cookbook, I'm not a big dessert maker so the tips and hints will come in very handy. And we do enjoy our desserts when we have them, thanks for sharing.
You had me at Everything. Dessert. LOL
From a long time desert lover, that book looks very interesting. As for the cake with two pages of instructions, that would have been welcomed when I was a beginner. Now I take shortcuts, but still like to check and make sure I'm on the right track.
Looks like a fun book - I love a book with lots of tips (even if I don't need them). But when I was a kid - dessert was different from cake so I grew up thinking cake was only dessert if it was warm and had a sauce - though we have cake for dessert in my house sometimes as I don't bake desserts as much as my mum did
