Happy Thorsday! Books!

You know it's been busy around here, since I went to another used book sale 2 weeks ago and am just now getting around to writing about it!

The library got these great reusable bags donated to them by a local bank, and were handing them out freely.  The boys and I filled 4 with books.

These were some of my books (in their bag).

These were more of my books.

I also got a few books for the relative in Colorado.  She can't drive, and is very happy when I send her silly little gifts like a couple of books.

But my greatest find was this book (sorry for the blurry picture - I must have been wearing my stooopid hat when I took it):

You can't tell, but it has a nice, padded cover, with these gilt-edged pages and the ribbon bookmark.  I'm not entirely sure how much use it is, given that it has information on how to start the fire in your stove in the morning, and times and temperatures are virtually nonexistent, but it's a great deal of fun to read, in addition to being a very pretty volume.  I think its previous owner must have died, and the heirs (probably men), just gave away everything, including this book.  No one would willingly let it go.

Happy Thorsday, everyone!

The Yellow Room -- such an excellent get away from it all book. Mary Roberts Rinehart is a favorite of mine. Haven't read her for a while. Must get back to it. The Cookbook is so wonderful. My mother's favorite book was the Fanny Farmer's cookbook (not the older version however). It's a wonderful thing to wander through it and find clippings of recipes from the Boston Globe back in the 50's or 3x5 index cards with recipes in my grandmother's handwriting "Peanut Butter Cookies for Olive". It's like a little visit from both of them.
Thanks for the memories Marjie. Have a wonderful Mother's Day. How could you not?

An intentional fire in the stove sounds like a plan ...

Sorry I must read first before I hit publish comment - finger error on the keys!!
Wow that cook book is amazing. I have one of my late mother-in-laws books which I suspect was her mother's. It looks a bit worn but it is such fun reading it. It is cooking and house keeping - how things have changed! I like Michael Connelly. Have a good weekend. Diane

Getting new (to me) books always makes me happy. Love that Fannie Farmer Cookbook - I bet it's a hoot to read.

I'm so jealous!

I'm plodding thru Ceremony. Rob commented that it's taking me a long time to read it, but it's so depressing that a little goes a long way. I want to shake Ellen and tell her to wise up.
