It all looks so beautiful, especially from the roof top.
Once springtime comes I think you need to encourage Dan to build a lovely "sitting outside" spot for his dear parents right on top of your garage - with a decent roof for shade you could both and each enjoy sitting up there, surveying your fine garden and just chilling out!!!!!!
