Another question from the friendly folks at Omaha Steaks. Actually, in the spirit of this weekend, I've paired it with one of my own.
When did you get your first color television?
(Note to those of you under 45 or so: sorry to confuse you. Color TV didn't become widespread until the late 1960s.)
And, speaking of television, tell us about a fond Super Bowl memory.
Me first: My parents bought a color TV for Christmas 1965. No, they weren't rich; they were just barely getting by. But they always had to have the newest "thing", whatever that may have been. I called them "consumer innovators": first to have everything, regardless of whether they could afford it.
My favorite Super Bowl memories: Either asking my boys when someone was going to get a home run, or voting for the winner based on the guys who were wearing the cutest outfits. Hubby tells them of watching Joe Namath winning the Super Bowl in the snow in San Diego. Of course, they don't understand life with black and white TVs and no cable.
Happy Super Bowl weekend, everyone!

Actually, I had a black & white TV late enough into my childhood that I remember it. My parents weren't big on TV, so there was no need for the expense or space those awesome floor, color consoles my friends had. Need I say I loved slumber parties?
Super Bowl memories? I don't know that I really have any.
you know I just cant remember when we got a color tv - I had a 13 inch B&W in my room when I was around 12 or 13 and that was the early 70s so we must have had a color tv by then - I also dont remember when we went from getting up and turnng the dial to having a remote - my son asked me a couple of years ago what kind of cell phone did I have when I was a kid! No super bowl memories either - I am lame at this one...maybe next question will be better for me.
Ah, the TV remote! Mine came in 1990. We were hopelessly slow and behind the times, as my kids would point out. Of course, I didn't get cable TV until 1996. Rabbit ears were fine for us.
My Grandfather was an engineer and loved new technology so we had a TV as far back as I can remember. We got our first color TV in 1954. The color was awful, but we had lots of company that came to watch it.
I'm not a football fan, nor is Rob, but our first date was on Superbowl Weekend in 1986. It did not involve watch the superbowl.
I remember our first television but don't remember our first colour. Remembering the year....that's tough, but it would be in the 60's.
Not until after we were married and that was 33 year's ago in August. I just remember we had an old b & w for a while before we got a new to us that was color. Don't make me think tonight............if I lay awake trying to figure out the actual date I'm going to get you number and CALL you;)
New Zealand didn't get colour TV until 1974 and we didn't get one until 1981. We only had one TV channnel until about 1975.
No remote control, I clearly remember that everytime Dad got up to change channels our cat would leap up to take over his armchair!
We got our first color TV in 1972 and I remember watching the Olympics on it. My sister and I sat on the floor and our parents brought their rockers behind us and we watched and watched.
No good superbowl memories since the Vikings have lost all 4 times they have been there :(
About 1967 I think..
I don't remember when I got my first color TV, but I'm old enough to remember when we got our first black and white. It was in the
40's. I remember watching "Uncle Miltie" Berle.
I will also never forget my grandmother sitting there watching roller derby. Too funny.
I'm 38 and we actually had a black and white but got color when I was 5-ish? What's up with that!
I know nothing of black and white tv and I'm not under 45!
Favorite superbowl memory. Watching Garth Brooks sing and Marlee Matlin sign the National Anthem - it was absolutely breathtaking. g
Hope you have had a good week/end Marjie - I have missed my visits. Love Thor's photo from last Thursday! I do still remember black and white tele's and a funny old computer game we used to play (possibly an old Amstrad game) like tv tennis xxx
My parents (dad) is really into sports and this necessitated multiple tvs. Our kitchen tv was b/w, the one in my parent's room had the turn dial, but it was color and I remember when he got the big one to put in our living room--and it had a remote control. They still have all of those old old TVs, plus a flat screen.
We don't have even one TV in the house, but we have moved up to two laptops...
Still catching up my blog reading for the past week.
I remember watching The Flinstones in b&w at lunchtime when I was in elementary school. But I'm positive it was color by the time I hit high school in 1980.
And channels ! we only had 2 local channels until high school as well. We could play with the rabbit ears a bit and bring in ABC & NBC but they were really 'snowy'. Mostly we could just listen to those programs LOL
