I-Didn't-Think-Up-A-Cute-Name Rice

My brain's a little addled today, so I didn't think up a name for this rice. But it was good.

I think you're all pretty well aware that I rarely venture out; thus, the restaurant supply house and Amazon com delivering so many things to my house. Well, recently I stumbled across a lovely website called Spice Barn, which sells spices in containers from small to Marjie's-family-sized at very reasonable prices. They even have some truly strange and wonderful items, too, such as soy sauce powder, Worcestershire sauce powder, spearmint extract, and tomato powder. Yes, tomato powder. I believe it was created for people like me who hate to open a can for one lousy tablespoon, put it in the fridge and forget all about it until it turns green. Or, more precisely, scrape it into a bowl to turn green, because I don't put cans in the fridge.

So, with several new and exciting things to try, I present to you....

I-DIDN'T-THINK-UP-A-CUTE-NAME RICE

(Sized down for you normal people)

1 cup rice

2 cups water
2 tsp tomato powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup dried veggie flakes
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine

Put the rice, water, tomato powder and salt in your pan; bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes. Add the veggie flakes and butter; cook another 5 minutes and serve. Use brown rice or substitute wild rice for some of the white rice for even more flavor excitement!
And, yes, we are still using our Christmas plates; I'll probably get them put away this weekend.

Have a great weekend, everyone; I hope you all warm up some.

These powders and other dried flavourings and veg are just brilliant for you, especially over winter when you never know home things will be weather vs. how many to feed tonight.

Happy experimenting with your new culinary discoveries, I'd love to be tasting and eating the results,

I shall forever think of large containers as "Marjie's Family Size".

I'll have to try these powders. Also good when you live alone. I know what you mean about buying online. In Canada, I buy from Golda's Kitchen and it is way easier than going to the mall.

The Knight won't eat rice and my rice-sharers are on that insanely restrictive diet, but tomato powder? As soon as this comment posts, I'm shopping!

I am definitely going to look up that website. I am like you; I always have something turning a lovely shade of green, in the fridge, because I only need to use a little. This will definitely be handy!

I never get out much either, because there isn't much to do in small town! :)

Love the "name" Marjie:) I'm on a mission to stock my spice cabinet with things I've never heard of. If that tomato powder brings results like that, I'm all over it!!!

Thanks for sharing. Happy Friday!!!

Wow - the things that are available !

I have to admit Worcestershire sauce powder struck me as more odd than tomato powder, no idea why.

think the title makes it a good name actually... kind of like "i cant believe it's not butter".. . maybe you should trademark it??? :)

Oh dear. I fear I am going to be spending lots of time visiting that website. :-) I love this rice! Did you like the texture of the dried veggie flakes when they cooked? Your loaded plate looks so pretty and appetizing. YUM!

LOL... just the other day, I was looking at a jar of "something" at the store, and I said "nah... I would never use a Marjie sized container like that"!
The rice looks yummy, but I guess I'll have to figure out my own recipe since we can't get tomato powder here. *sob* It would come in SO handy when cooking for one or two!

I just had a thought... if that's sized down for us normal people, how much do you actually make when you're cooking for your own personal army?!
