Can I Make You Think?

Last week's vacation question was interesting. Lots of you were willing to go to the Arctic, not as many to the desert. But I may be going with Mickle to visit the penguins. I hadn't even considered them!

In keeping with last week's vacation theme, here's another conversation starter for you.

Where would you rather stay during your vacation:
Camping or hotel?
Castle or convent?

As for me, my parents were big on camping. On the good trips, I got bronchitis. On the bad trips, I got pneumonia. Thus, my statement, "My idea of roughing it is a hotel without room service."

Castle or convent? No doubt: a castle. I've been to the convent to visit my dearly beloved's late aunt plenty of times. I once went to Gilette's Castle in Connecticut (Gilette was an actor who played an early version of Sherlock Holmes), and would love to visit other castles. They are in short supply here in the states, however.

How about you?

Hotel and castle, no contest.

I'm not a camper. If I can't stay somewhere nice than my home, I have no business going. ;-)

Castle definitely - the intrigue!

A HOTEL!!! I've camped enough and roughed it that I don't EVER want to spend another night on the ground ;) I hotel/castle....I'm not much into suffering in silence at a convent!! I like these posts...I didn't have to think much on this one for an answer though.

Marjie I am with you in the hotel! I must admit I have never even tried camping but I would be such a moaner if I did ... I am sure :-) Chris has tried to get me to a music festival for the past 15 years, to no avail and although I would love the music, the idea of festival toilets and mud does not do it for me. Lots of castles in the UK waiting for you to visit xxx

Hotel and castle. Especially if the hotel is in a castle.

I like the Hotel in a Castle idea myself!!

I am not for roughing it...I always tend to get sick...my grandma always said that my lungs were just not made for that "damp night air!" LOL

gotta love grannies! :)

I want a hotel that's a castle!! Yeah, not a lot of castle's around but if you ever get the chance, the mansions in Newport, Rhode Island are ver beautiful to visit.

I'm with Sue... hotel and castle, thank you very much. Unless of course, like friends of ours, you have Barbie's dream castle on wheels (aka a camper with a more expensive kitchen than my house)...

I was a happy camper as a kid, but since my back became an issue in my teens, I've said my idea of camping is a hotel without room service, so hotel (with room service, please?) it is!

And it would depend on the other choice. I've been to both, and would go again!

I'll come with you to a hotel or a castle anytime :o) Except no ghosts in the castle though... I hate ghost stories! and camping..! convents... hm,no, I don't think all that ascetic living is my kind...

Hotel - I used to love camping - now sleeping on rocks is not soo appealing. and Castle - obviously. Although the spring sewing retreat is held at an old convent and I do stay there once a year - does that count? g

Too many choices for me !

camping / hotel - I love camping but only if I don't have to sleep on the ground - back just can't take it anymore.

convent / castle - castle, although I've stayed in a convent and surprisingly enough, had a great time.

As much as I love a fancy hotel with room service, I am just as happy camping and cooking over a campfire. I would love to visit a convent IN a castle. :)

Hotel, visit castle, back to hotel- preferably a Marriot! If I go camping, it is without wife..women were born with two sets of lips- so they could piss and moan at the same time! Oh crap! Did I say that aloud?

Camping & Convent. I LOVE love love camping. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a nun. Really, I did:)

Hotel and castle. Perferrably a lovely 5 star hotel in a castle.

Well, we are going to Iceland in 3 months, so I would normally like to camp in summer months, we are definitely staying in a hotel. A castle, now that would be different

First up just has to be the Hotel.

For the second lot - which ever has the best plumbing coz I can supply my own woolley blankets but do need decent bathrooms (especially good loo plumbing!), for all our sakes!

Now, which has the best wood fired oven for bread baking?

I've always wanted to take the boys dog sledding; they give you the option of going camp site to camp site or lodge to lodge. Lodges with fireplaces definitely win!! We stayed in a castle in Ireland--lovely! But I would love to visit a convent--so that's a much harder choice.

I love these!!

Camping, definitely. Most of my favorite memories growing up and in college are of camping. Tavo is not much of a camper--but I'm working on it..

Castle or convent? Uh..I think I'd rather go camping again. I've seen some of those European castles with communal outhouses and chilly, wet interiors. Not for me.
