A present for Me!

This couldn't have come at a better time. Having discovered last week that I have bats in my belfry (I said it so you all don't have to), I spent a good deal of time Friday and today being disturbed by said bats, and meeting with Bat Men. I've been receiving estimates around $11,000 to clean the bats out of my belfry, and now I'm depressed. So when my little guy came in dragging a box handed to him by Lou the mailman, I needed it.

I won a box of spices from the marvelous Debbie of Stitches and Seams! Befo
re I show them to you, I want you all to enjoy the opening instructions as much as I did.

The lids tell an intriguing story....
And the jars themselves are a work of art! (And for us sewing people,
isn't her note card adorable?)

Vanilla bean and Saffron! I've never had those before! Peppercorns, fennel seed, poppy seed, curry! Basil, sage, oregano, ginger, chives and paprika! What a splendid assortment. Thank you Debbie.
But, wait, there was more. She included a present for Thor: Two cow tails, tied with a pretty red ribbon, in a baggie. Yes, you can only count one in this picture.

Thor must have been able to smell the cow tails through the bag, because when I put the baggie on the table, he sniffed at the table and took up dancing. I gave him one immediately, and he danced around the breakfast room table to show it to his Great Red Protector. Believe me, getting him to stand still for a picture was not easy.

At last, he sat down to munch, but Thor's head is so big that you can only see the end of the cow tail hanging out of his mouth.

So, Debbie, you have another admirer here in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania! Many thanks for the spices; now I'm off to make something wonderful!

Yay! I finally got my rear to the P.O. LOL! So glad everything made it and Thor is enjoying the tails. I didn't notice the box opening instructions before. That's hilarious! We'll all be looking forward to what you make with the saffron and vanilla bean (not necessarily the same dish!).

YAY for you! How cool is that present? You're always cooking or making or doing for other people, (Thor's included in that, of course) so it's GREAT to see you receiving your very own present for a change!!
Saffron? What in the world will you do with it? I can't wait to see!!

I think that box might have been printed here in Australia. Just sayin'. ;)

How fun. I do love Debbie's notecards. Sorry you have bats in your belfry - why so expensive to get rid of? Ugh. ::shudder:: g

Wow! Congratulations! What a wonderful gift! It certainly will help you deal with the depression accompanying the bats in the belfry. $11,000! Yikes. But I have heard they are difficult.

I actually made a nice shortbread cookie with saffron and vanilla bean - in the same cookie.

Openized flaps? Absolutely the best kind. Congratulations -- what a lovely prize. (Methinks Thor is never left out of anything.)

Happy Thor I can see and a happy you as well.

Bats, we have them all over the place here, they are at least not in our roof, but at night they are as common as birds during the day. They don't worry me except they make a mess of my car, parked in the barn if I forget to cover it!!!! Diane

Beautiful jars full of flavoursome goddies! So good to see your very hardworking self rewarded. And doesn't darling Thor look super happy!

Have never come across "openized" before - it sounds like a "mangle-ized" term. Sending best wishes for resolution of the "bats issue",

Michelle and a sleeping Zeb (leave him be - he's warming up my side of our bed), xxx and purrrrumbles

I love using vanilla bean....saffron I haven't had the opportunity to yet. I love the square jars too...keepers. The cow tail probably won't last long.

Oh - that's a gorgeous set!

How cute that Thor "dances" around - Honey does something similar when she is very happy with herself and prances around with something in her mouth, almost like showing it off! :-)

What a great gift. I think I'm the only person in the State of Missouri that uses spices in cooking.
