Hot Dinner Rolls

My boys have decided that they like dinner rolls, and they love taking them to school/work for lunch. So, in flipping through my Fannie Farmer cookbook for the recipe for the Election Cake, I stumbled on these, (although the recipe was smaller). They were excellent, and delicious reheated the next day, too!

HOT ROLLS

1-1/2 cups warm milk
3 tsp or 6 tsp yeast

2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
4 cups flour
4 tsp gluten powder

Milk wash:
2 tbsp warm milk
1 tsp sugar

Warm the milk to about 110F, and dissolve the yeast in it (use 3 tsp if you have plenty of time, or 6 tsp if you're in a hurry). Add the flour, butter (cut into small pieces), sugar, salt and gluten, and mix in your bread machine for 10 minutes or follow the directions in my bread making tutorial to the right. After the dough is mixed, let it rise for 10 minutes, punch it down and divide it into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, and place on a greased baking sheet. Add the sugar to the milk, warm for a few seconds in the microwave so the sugar will dissolve, and brush over the top of the rolls. Let the rolls rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour if you use 3 ts
p or 1 packet yeast, or 20 to 30 minutes if you use 6 tsp). Bake at 375F for 15 to 20 minutes, until the rolls are a lovely golden brown.
I've made these rolls twice this week, at the request of my boys. That should tell you above any other comments how wonderful they are!

I need to try these and see if they beat Ben's Luby rolls. You have any good cinnamon roll recipes? I'm trying your pumpkin pie next weekend when I do Ben and mine's "Thanksgiving!"

Your dinner rolls look really good - and I can easily halve the quantities to make a Michelle sized batch. I'll put this on my Sunday "to do" list!
