Happy Thorsday!

Thor went to the vet on Tuesday, because he had a cyst between 2 of his toes, and his girl the nurse was very concerned. There are no pictures at the vet's office, however, you'll all be pleased to know that Thor was the best behaved dog at the vet's office. He sat with Ryan, didn't pull his leash and paid little attention to any of the other dogs.
The other dogs' mommas all hid their yapping little brats from big, bad Thor. All except a little shepherd of some kind, whose momma let him come say Hi to Thor.

The vet said Thor is in excellent health, especially for a 9 year old mastiff. She broke several little cysts under his skin, and prescribed fish oil to help prevent new ones from forming. This is evidently quite common in aging mastiffs, and there's no reason for medication.

So, aside from flinging drool around the exam room, the vet was very happy with Thor. And he was very happy to come home, and romp outside with his boys.

Happy Thorsday, everyone!

He looks like a gentle giant, plus it's easier to be relaxed when you know you can whip everyone else in the room :-)

Glad it wasn't too serious!

Dear Thor, this is great news and I'm sure you feel better for it. Zeb had a cyst removed from his lower back earlier this year (done while he was anaethetised for a teeth clean). Despite 3 stitches Zeb carried on as usual during a whole week before they were removed. Life is better without cysts upsetting your skin

It looks as if you were following an especally interesting smell out in your garden. Did it lead to food?

Sending special huggles to Thor and your Mama

Glad to hear the big guy is going strong! I'll second what another comment said... I feel as though Thor is a part of OUR pack!!

And no pulling? Wow. Sis struggles with that, if not in a harness.

I'd have to LOL in the face of all those silly doggy mamas at the vet's office! HA!

Glad to hear Thor is healthy... did they have you get fish oil in oil format or capsules? We've been giving capsules to Zeus...

THOR! I was worried when you went to the vet. Glad it was just old dog pimples. You keep on going, big guy.

Yay Thor!! And what's a vet's office without some drool anyway?

Mickle in NZ said...

I agree, Debbie - you need some drool around to dampen down all the fur those cats shed in there, lol!

Funny the other owners didn't realize the bigger they are, the sweeter they are. Newfoundlands, Mastiffs -- they're born with confidence and an instinct to protect the smaller.

Let me get this straight, now. The Vet was flinging drool around the exam room? ;-P Cute post for a cute dog.

We get cysts too, Thor. Mom has them checked, but they're all OK. Sometimes they pop and get a little messy, but no big deal. We all take fish oil every day and we love it. It tastes great, nice and fishy.

Wow, 9 years old for a Mastiff really is a great age! Thor looks like such a distinguished old gentleman in his pictures! :-) Glad to hear it was nothing serious. Honey has started getting lots of little bumps under her skin, all over her body too - I don't know if they're the same thing but the vets here call them "benign cysts" or "fatty lumps" - we usually just leave them alone and they disappear again by themselves. They don't seem to bother her at all. But then she hasn't had any between her toes! :-)

Glad to read that Thor is a healthy nine yr. old! And I can sympathize with the drool slinging after having raised two great danes (not at the same time thankfully) in my lifetime!
