Garden Tuesday: Hydrangea

Remember this picture of my hydrangea, taken 10 days ago?

Well, I don't know what happened, other than we had a rainy, cold weekend, but look at it now. From whence came the color?

(And, yes, Buff, I know it's overgrown. But I love it.)

In the real garden, I have baby pea pods. I'm a dope, and initially planted 2 pea plants. How was I to know they produce next to nothing per plant? This is my second try; they're looking promising.
Sadly, given the cold summer, and the fall turning cold again, I won't have time for a second planting of much of anything.
See you tomorrow with that pie!

The hydrangea look beautiful - I love the new color. I wouldn't trim it either, the bigger the better.

I love both the color and size of your hydrangea! Whenever I hear that word, I always think of the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" where Mary hides in the hydrangea bush! Your garden looks terrific. Be glad my youngest isn't there to swipe all those peas; that girl eats them raw right off the plant. I'd say your first sq. ft. garden was a big success. I'm toying with planting a winter carrot crop (they did great last year even when covered in snow ... they just grow slower), plus some herbs. I figure if the carrots die and the herbs flop ... well, I'm not really losing anything and at least I tried! :-)

I never have any luck with Hydrangea but I am going to give it a go next year.

I had to smile when I read about the two pea plants. My daughter was just saying she wished she had planted more too. The grandkids LOVED them!!!

I was always under the impression that peas were a cool weather crop. Can't they be planted a second time in the season?

Love your Garden Tuesday posts Marjie. Thanks for sharing...

Interesting about the hydrangea. I want one now, just to see if it will change colors! (I'm pretty sure it's too late in the year to plant one now, but still...)

The hydrangea is just beautiful, and I would be tempted to just leave it as it is too!

I always thought that peas were a cool weather crop, so maybe you have enough time to get one more planting in this season... Fingers crossed anyway.
But I think that all the knowledge that you've gained 'this' year, will give you ideas for 'next' year...eh'?

I always thought hydrangea colors were based on the soil it grows in. So, what changed in your dirt? Could be acid rain. ;-)

Your hydrangea looks so good.

Confession - I wait until the new leaf grwth appears on mine until I prune the previous year's deceased flower heads ...... well i did when I was healthier...

My oorr plant is lustily putting out leaf growth while encumbered with 3 previous year's dead heads. I must clamber up the bank and relive the dear plant so it can give more purple glory - it was originally blue!

Yours looks so pretty and not at all too tall.

Do enjoy the peas, with the college kids away = all the more for those at home!

care and huggles, Michelle and a grumpy bunny of a Zebby, daft darling cat.

my hydrangeas do that -- they start out one color and gradually change. my limelight hydrangea starts out green and gradually gets whiter, while the other one (i can't remember what kind) starts out pink and gradually gets more purple.

That garden is looking pretty lush! We're going to try the raised beds next year--have already been plotting what part of the lawn we want to use!

I love your hydrangea--the flowers on them are usually blue down here. So neat that they come in a variety of different hues.
