Happy Birthday, House

In my house, there are a couple of very narrow (8" wide), high (3 foot) cupboards at the end of the hall. In one of them, stuffed to the very back, I found this photo dated 10/12/28.

How cool is it to find a picture of your house under construction? I love that the guys in the picture are wearing overcoats, which today are too fancy for about anyone!

So, happy 80th birthday to my house!

What a great find! How exciting it must have been to find that. My dad still wears overcoats like those in the picture as well as a fedora or cap style hat. He was born in 1929, so this style suits him!

Now that is such a neat find. I mourn the loss of dignity in the everyday dress of adults since as recently as the early 60s. I could cite many examples. I remember my dad wearing his hat, his overcoat, and carrying his briefcase to work every day, on the train, to Wall Street. Now adults dress more like kids than adults. Sigh..... I guess I am living in the wrong times, sometimes. I think that is the neatest thing to find. I love the way you decorate your home!

That's wonderful. In our old house in St. Louis, we found things dated 1896, from the first owners of the house. I always used to imagine what they people were wearing as they walked down our steps.
