Halloween planning

Yes, it was my birthday on Friday, and my very sincere thanks to all of you who chimed in with good wishes. I don't think so many people have sent me birthday greetings since 4th grade, when everyone was required to say Happy Birthday to everyone else in the class on the appropriate date. All of my college kids who weren't home for the weekend called, and one even sent a present. It doesn't get much better than that! I have never really acknowledged to the kids how old I am, because I never wanted them to feel obligated to do anything for me, but I'm now officially 48 (or, as my kids say, 21). Anyway, I got an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer for my birthday - the official story is that my dearly beloved called up Amazon.com and told them to ship one - and the boys wrapped it for me and surprised me. Life is good in my little world.

Friday and Saturday were rainy and crummy, so when the rain cleared Sunday, we hopped off to the pumpkin patch to get the boys their pumpkins. Wasn't it beautiful?
59 degrees, too - what more can we ask at the end of October? Afterward, we meandered over to the fabric store for costume inspiration. I have to create a wizard by Thursday, but Mark wants to use a dragon costume I made a few years back for Ryan - hooray! It was a great costume, although I may have to lengthen the legs, since Ryan was 5 months younger when he wore it than Mark is now. I'm sketching out the ideas for the wizard-wear; updates later in the week.

Wasn't my back terrace pretty yesterday?

And don't you just love my burning bush, which Ryan dubbed "absurdly loud"?

I am glad you had such a nice birthday - 48 suits you because you look amazing.

I love that you sew costumes for your kids. I need to get out my sewing machine and learn to use it.

Your yard is beautiful - love the burning bush.

It sounds like you had a lovely birthday weekend - as it should be. I got your card on Friday, thank you so very much. I have to get a cord to hang the charm.

How sweet that hubby was able to surprise you and not make you order your gift - he's learning. g

That's a lot of phone calls! How sweet that your boys wrapped your present. Your hubby did good, especially since he's not a computer kind of guy. I'm looking forward to seeing your ice cream creations. Happy 48th! I love my 40's (46 this year!)and I hope you do, too. So many great things have happened this decade, including meeting you!

Those are some big pumpkins that the boys picked out! I hope the deer leave them alone for you this year. We haven't got ours yet; I hope to get them today or tomorrow. I swear that Ryan looks taller and taller from week to week. Seriously, from last week to this week, he looks like he's stretched toward the sky a few feet.

Your yard is lovely, like something out of a bed and breakfast magazine, and the burning bush is beautiful. I was really homesick yesterday, and was wondering if you were going to post photos of your fall colors. There is actually some beautiful color here this year, but nothing like home.

Looking forward to seeing those costumes!

I'm glad you had a wonderful b day. You are young in look and in heart. Your yard is making me wish I was back East. I miss those spectacular colors. I'll be in upstate NY on Saturday, but I know I'm a little too late for the great colors. I'll take what I can get!

First, belated Happy Birthday!

Your burning bush is breath taking, I just can't get enough of the fall colors.

I can't wait to see your wizard costume. You have me missing my sewing machine. I lost mine during Katrina and haven't replaced it yet.
