Garden Tuesday: Spirea

Ever spent 3 hours on the phone trying to figure out how the telephone company can be telling you they're going to institute a 40% discount on your business phone bill, which will knock the bill down from $400 to $375 per month? Must be that new math thing. And, man, does my head hurt!

So I took a walk outside during breaks between the thunderstorms to look at my spirea. Do you have any?
About 15 years ago, I went to a garden center to buy 20 junipers. The old lady there, after I had loaded the juniper in my Suburban, suddenly came running over with these 2 scraggly plants that were about the size of basketballs, and told me to plant them in the sun so they would put some color near my house.

I cut them back mercilessly every fall. And she was right. The color is great, and they flower more than once per summer.

If you click on this photo to biggify, you'll see the flowers at about life sized. They're tiny, and pretty strong!

Happy Garden Tuesday, everyone! Hope you all get a little of the cooling that my thunderstorms have given me for the past 2 days!

Your flowers are beautiful and for what it's worth, that phone call would have made my head ache as well. UGH. I hate calls like that.

Beautiful. And calming. I hate those kinds of phone calls.

We had Spirea in Maryland and it was bright and cheerful. I think it would burn up along with everything else around here.

I let Rob take those phone calls. I hate talking on the phone.

Your garden always has such lovely color. I am glad to hear that the rain broke up the heat for all of you, and doesn't it make everything look that much greener afterwards?

The spirea is beautiful!

40% huh - that's some math. My friend's son is learning 'estimating math' (as in 20/2 is about 9, can you believe it ?) - maybe they estimated the 40% calculation :-)

The flowers are lovely. Maths seems to have changed since I was at school!! I hope they did not charge you for the 3 hour phone call or you have lost all the 40% anyway! Diane

When plants are grouped closely in a container garden, set up a sprinkler or hose with a fine spray nearby, allowing it to run for a long while, until the soil is soaked. In many states where the climate is dry, an automatic sprinkler system is a must to keep your whole garden hydrated.

Hahaha... Wasn't Sprint, was it? They told the Knight we had a 30-day "free" trial when we switched to their cellular plan. I'm here to tell you that after the returned equipment credit, the business owed WELL over $2500. Seriously?! (Horrible coverage, so we had to change cell providers.)

Pretty shots! :)
Zeus thought Thor should remind you to come enter our contest to win Nature's Logic food for him... after all, a big doggy can always use some yum-yums!

That gorgeous patio caught my eye! I have spirea, too. Mine are white. I planted 2 last year hoping they would eventually grow to provide some privacy for my patio. They are growing like weeds! I love them. Easy maintenance and attract bees and butterflies.

I can't do that new math either! I have two or three different varieties of Spirea and I love them....especially the one that has an orange colored leaf and pink flower. Princess (I think its called).
