No Bake Cookies

What are boys to do on a rainy afternoon? Especially if they want a snack? How about make cookies? Mmm hmm. Just what I need: a mess, and kids playing in the oven. Then I recalled that I had found this recipe. I adapted it to be made in the microwave, which seems to me to be safer for the kids, and it was a huge hit. The boys enjoyed the process, and everyone enjoyed the cookies. Even their 24 year old fussbudget brother thought they were addictive.

NO BAKE COOKIES

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup peanut butter
3-1/2 cups quick cook oats

In a glass bowl, melt the butter. Add the sugar, cocoa powder and milk
, and microwave until they boil. Stir in the peanut butter, and heat until it melts. Stir in the oats, and stir until well combined. Drop by teaspoons on waxed paper on cookie sheets, and let them cool to harden. Makes about 30 cookies.

Note that I put these in the fridge to speed the cooling process.

You can see how popular they were. These are all that were left the next morning.

And a special note to Paula, these are safe for your baby. And given that the twins are taller than you, they can reach the microwave, so the three of them can have fun making these together. I'm just saying....

PERFECTO! We are making these TONIGHT! My wee one will be thrilled. And with that oatmeal in there, this kinda makes it a healthy cookie, right? I mean it's got the dairy group, the protein group, the fat group, and the grain group all in one! Thanks for posting this! Bookmarked!

PS: Raining, again? Geesh, you really do have my weather and I have yours. Um, I don't wanna trade back. :-)

Hi, Marjie! Thanks for stopping by my blog. No bake cookies are the best. My son's assistant den leader for scouting makes these every time we have an event. I love them! As for homeschooling, I am a first-timer. My husband and I decided to pull our son out of 5th grade public school. Down the road, when I finally get a hang of homeschooling, we'll enroll our daughter. I'm very nervous. I actually had my son start some of the online activities because I didn't want him to get behind since the box will not arrive until next Tuesday! Am I overreacting? Probably, right? How long have you been homeschooling? Was it rather daunting at first? I would appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks! =)

Once I made a failed attempt at coconut macaroons.. After one messy batch, I took the remaining cookie mix, added cocoa and refrigerated them into a no bake dessert ball(1" dia. each!) Better than the macaroon!

I use to "bake" something like these that included rum. I think they were called Rum Balls. They were a great addition to the explosive Christmas parties I had long ago. The parties were always an open house and hundreds of people stopped by. Thanks for the memory Marjie.

P.S. I think I "see" Channon in your comment section. I'll drop by her blog and find out about the Pizza Pans. Thanks again:)

Okay, so I didn't see anything about Pampered Chef over @ Channon's. Once again, could you link me up with your "pal?"

Thanks again...

My son Quincy will only eat these out of the bowl, warm -- he is a bigger fan of goo than cookies.

We make these using Sunflower butter (I have a peanut allergy) and they are delicious! Going to try with almond butter next!
