Pizza for Pi Day

Saturday was 3.14, which, as we math fans know, is Pi. Hence, Pi Day. What better way to celebrate than Pizza Pie? The kids love it, I don't, which is irrelevant, and the girls made it, which is even better.

I tried a new crust recipe, and my dearly beloved informed me that this was the best pizza he'd had since leaving New Haven 40 years ago. I guess you might say he sorta liked it? For the record, I used pizza sauce from cans. I don't feel the need to take hours to make the sauce for something I think of as "fast food".

CRISPY PIZZA CRUST

1-1/2 cups water
3 tsp yeast
2 cups flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2/3 tsp salt

2/3 tsp sugar
2 tbsp olive oil

Soften the yeast in the water, stir in the rest of the ingredients. For one batch, you can mix this in a bread machine. For the record, if you're tripling this recipe, be careful mixing it in a Kitchenaid mixer. Mine overheated, and shut itself down for half an hour. I was less than pleased. The triple batch made 2 large baking trays plus 4 small baking trays. There were leftovers.

But everyone else was pleased with the results. What more can one ask on a Saturday night? Tomorrow, I'll show you our dessert for Pi Day.

I agree with you about the sauce, we use jar sauce too. Those pizzas looks so good and it's lunch time so I'd like two slices please.

Those flowers on my post are the blooms from a Bradford Pear TReet. I'll post a picture of the whole tree this week.

Your household could set up a pizzeria in no time with your kitchen delegation and cheap labour (family)!

Making pizza is a good family exercise...everyone wins!

Since there are leftovers, I would like 2 slices please.
I don't mind pizza for breakfast.
;-)
I'll pass the recipe along to my other half, since he's the pizza maker in this household! Am I a lucky girl, or what?

Hey, I'm checking back in from earlier and my comment isn't here! It was a witty one, too! Now my brain is tired. Oh well.

Anyway, I just love seeing all your kids preparing a meal together. Were the boys hovering nearby? Sneaking bits of cheese? I bet you love every moment of chaos that comes with having everybody under one roof! The pizzas look great to me ... did you get your white pizza? I could go for a slice of white right now. Regarding jarred sauce, some of them are really quite good. In just a few months, there will be fresh tomatoes to put on top, too! YUM!

Thanks! I haven't found THE pizza crust recipe yet, so maybe this is it...

The Knight believes pizza is a food group.

I LOVE PIZZA. I see you wrote about pie today. I've always wanted to try a savory pie. If you haven't already, please cover one!

At least you make your own crusts, I don't even do that, I always buy the refrigerated ones. I'm just a slacker. :-)

It's nice to see the kids working together in the kitchen to make these, and they did a fabulous job.
