If the government is waiting for people to get out there and spend money they don't have to jump start the economy, they'll be waiting a long time for me to participate. However, this week, I did have to spend. And my dearly beloved told me I was an idiot.
Last weekend, he stumbled into the kitchen, looking for, as Pooh would say, "a small smackerel", and found me with a screwdriver, jar of screws, and this:
"What do you think you're doing?"
"The handle fell off this pan. If I can find a new screw, I can fix it."
"You idiot! How long have you had these pans?"
"Since October of 1989." (Yes, I'm always specific like that.)
"Then buy new ones. If that handle lets go again, you'll hurt yourself."
Well, he didn't like it when I told him that the set I wanted was $200. But he liked it even less when I told him I could probably get a screw and nut assembly for a dollar at the local lumberyard, and then I wouldn't have to get new pans. After all, I liked these pans! So, when the box arrived Friday, the little boys jumped at the opportunity to unpackage them, and line them up for me.
See how pleased my little guy was at finding a present for his mom?
Of course, things in pan-world have changed since October, 1989. I didn't get a frying pan. I got two skillets and a saute pan. There were enough changes to make me want to contemplate, much like medieval monks, the great mysteries of life, including:
"What is the meaning of life?"
"If one has an everyday pan, must one necessarily use it every day?"
"Exactly what is a saucier anyway?"
"How much kitchen crap is too much?"
And, of course, the eternal biggie, "What's for dinner?"
Happy weekend, everyone!

nice set-o-pans you got there and all metal means you can pop em' in the oven.....
Lucky you! You're going to love them! My favorite is the 5 qt with the double handles. I use it for everything - stovetop and oven. ~ Robyn
Oh, lucky you!
The look so pretty all nice and shiney! You get a lot of good use out of those babies!
Always, always the question..."What's for dinner"!
Enjoy!
New pans are one of life's little pleasures
Your very brave Little One is in your kitchen! I guess the display meant there was no actual cooking happening. You have been so very wise to ban those not actually cooking from the cooking space, so very safety wise.
Wonderful new set of pots and pans. Your kitchen already looked to me (a keen foodie and cook) like a great cookery spot to work in. The new set will just add to the joy.
I found your blog via the All Gouda lady. Your 2 blogs are in the top 5 food and cooking blogs I check each day.
Sincere thanks for sharing your food and glimpses of your lovely family.
Special care to Thor, my rescue cat loves his wee toy(s) too.

Alas I too need new pots as the bottoms are coming off mine. I've a notion to go and buy specific sizes instead of a set to get the ones that I need........but then a set is cheaper. What to do, what to do as my grandmother would have said:)
My last batch of pots and pans were well thought out- the lids were horrible! If I win a lottery- All-Clad, all day!
Congratulations! They look very nice. Bet you are going to make some good food in those pans!
That is so exciting! I love new pans...I wish they would stay so shiny and no water spots.
Yeah! Marjie got new pans! They are lovely, too. I especially like the skillets and that one pot(?) in the back left corner of the photo. Love your sous chef's expression, too. :-)
Don't you just love new pots and pans?!?! Makes you wanna cook, right?
Gorgeous pots and pans. Nothing like new kitchen stuff! Now I can't wait to see what you're going to cook first.
Enjoy. We bought our "forever" pots and pans for each other for Christmas two years ago. I do a fair amount of stove top to oven cooking with mine.
Nice set of pans ! In my house, DH is the cook (yes, I'm spoiled, I know it) and he loves his pots and his knives and is VERY picky. Problem is, he is also a packrat. We now have 2 sets of pots and 3 sets of knives - 'just in case'. Just in case what, I'm not sure ! LOL but this house is only home to 2 PEOPLE !
Oooohhhh... PURTY!
And what a bargain ! The set I've been drooling over (very similar) runs about $540. before tax here, so I won't be getting new pans anytime soon. :-(
What brand??? I like hearing about new pots and pans - it's fun to dream about spending lots of money!! *L*
