Thor had a wonderful week last week, with four of his big friends home, and is somewhat depressed without Jeff to talk to him and toss him pupcorn Fortunately, the weather moderated somewhat on Wednesday, and Thor and the little boys went out to romp; the rest of the week promises to be 50 degrees as well, and I expect to pack picnic lunches! Meanwhile, as the boys take Test 120, Thor offers support and guidance, and wishes to be fed.
Since many of you are doubtless confused about why Thor and everyone else is banned from the kitchen, let me explain. Remember the beautiful brunette from last week's pictures? Well, I used to have an island in the middle of my kitchen. I'd stage the pans and plates on it to serve dinner. Everyone was forbidden from the kitchen during cooking time. But, one night, when she was 7, aforementioned brunette ran through the kitchen, between the stove and island, as I was turning around to move a pan of spaghetti sauce to the island. She ran under my elbow, jostled it, and spilled some sauce down her back. I slammed the pan down, grabbed her, hauled her 2 steps to the sink, turned on cold water and hosed her. Very fortunately, she has always had long hair (I won't let the girls cut their hair as long as I pay for their support), and the hair took most of the sauce, fortunately landing below her head. Well, you know the floor was flooded, but she had only the smallest of red spots on one shoulder. Silvadeen cream, which I had since I've been known to burn myself, cleaned it up in a day.
The following week, I had the island ripped out. I kept a yardstick in the kitchen for years, threatening to use it on anyone who came in there for any reason. And you all wonder why my giant sons are afraid of their mother!
And, here's a picture of Thor and his smallest friend, since we can never see too much of Thor!

Thor is just tooo cute! Have a Happy DOT!
I banned mine from the kitchen when they were younger, but now I allow them bacuse they, mainly Kaitlin, like to help and they need to learn their way around the kitchen. Good rule, the kitchen is no place for running or playing.
I can't believe Thor is so calm and patient with the guinea pig!
Love my Thor on Thursdays!
OMG - I always adore any pics of Thor, but that last picture is just too precious! You need to send that one in to the doggy pic contests... PlanetDog.com, etc. :)
Darling Thor! What a gentle giant.
That story and your kitchen rules make sense. Thank goodness the hair protected her skin!
I just love Thor and his cavi friend! Too precious!
Thor is quite a dog to come lip to lip with a guinea pig and not eat it!!
I'm always afraid of the dogs getting hurt in the kitchen. I taught them 'get back'. If I break something and there's glass on the floor or if I drop a pill, I say 'get back' and everyone takes a couple steps backwards. It's saved cut feet on several occasions.
How funny Thor and the guinea pig! Sorry he is sad without his companions. That just means you have to spend more time loving on him! The kitchen rule is a great one.
I'm glad your daughter wasn't hurt more seriously. You have a good rule. Keeping them out of the kitchen is a good idea. Thor is just to precious for words ♥
That is definitely a good rule to have! I remember accidentally bumping a pan of boiling water when I was a little girl... the bubbling liquid splashed all over my aunt's legs and she had to be rushed to the hospital. =( That was terrible experience.. thank goodness she recovered from it without any scarring!!
Thor looks like such a gentle giant... happy Thorsday to you too!
what a hiry scary lucky escape story that was...whew...and what a happy thor he is. awwww
Thor is so cute and big
We sure can never see to much of him! that is too cute with him and his little friend. I can only imagine your surprise of spaghetti sauce everywhere! :) WOW
What an amazing picture! He could eat him in one bite if he wanted to.
I am so jealous Marjie - I wish I could lay down the law and not have any one in my kitchen when cooking. I love the last pic of Thor and his "little" friend!
Wow, how scary. I can imagine though with that many kids running around, you need to set some specific guidelines!
I think he gets cuter every week.
Another gorgeous picture of Thor :)
I always worried about stuff like that when my kids were younger.....thank goodness your daughter was not seriously hurt.
Who knew that hair could be such a great buffer. Glad to hear she's okay.
Cute picture of Thor and the guinea pig.
Kids in the kitchen - unless they're invited - is a BIG no-no around here! As you can imagine, with some of the daycare kids having little or no rules at home, it's always a disaster just waiting to happen!
It's :
MY house. MY kitchen MY rules !!
I'm just thankful that your daughter was okay!
Oh my...I just love Thorsdays! He's such a gorgeous, gorgeous boy!
Thor is, as always, adorable. How cute is that him with that little ginnipig (?) !
I get chills when I hear the story about the sauce. Talk about a close call! I bet that was really scary. That little guinea pig doesn't look scared at all, though, hanging out with gentle giant Thor! :-)
Every time Thorsday comes along, I am reminded of how fast life flies by. What a story about spilling the sauce! I once knew a girl in school who wasn't as lucky as your dd. It was such a shame. I can understand your long term firmness about that rule.
Little Son is approaching Calvert 4th test 40, and Baby Girl is approaching Calvert 1st test 60. Test 120 seems so far away right now!
wow. thor could clearly swallow the little piggy whole! i'm glad they're friends...seeing something like that would traumatize me for life. :)
I'm catching up now after the weekend away.
I had my own experience with running in the house. I was 5 (and knew better) and ran into my older sister who was carrying a cup of tea (just boiled). The whole mug spilled right on my head. Very short hair, but I had on a wool sweater that protected me below the shoulders. A week long hospital stay and a scar the size of a thumbprint on my shoulder - I was lucky. Glad your daughter was too.
Thor is just way too cute !
