Garden Tuesday: Plum Trees

Down in our little orchard, we have a couple of old plum trees. These haven't produced anything for many years, and, since time had been cruel to them, we cut them back severely a couple of years ago. Look how well that has paid off!

I'm pretty pleased with the whole thing. Ryan tried one of these plums, and was severely disappointed at how sour they were. I had to explain to him that they need to ripen, as evidenced by darkening in color.
And, at dusk, my little boys got this nice picture through the trees!

I think it is also a good year for plums, or it is here. 1 have 4 trees and they are laden. Everyone else in France seems to have the same 'problem'. You can only use so many!!!! Diane

Looks like a good crop coming. Fruit trees respond well to pruning.

Love the sunset coming through your trees. Will be interesting to see what you do with that great harvest - I don't think they'll make good ice cream. :) g

They look like our plums, I just tasted them today: very sour! I'll just have to wait a while longer!

Our plum tree outdid itself this year. It was loaded. It looks like the crabapple trees are having a big yea, too.

Plum Jam! A Christmas memory from staying with Mum's parents -their plums were always ripe in December so Nana would be flat out making jams and jellies in the Summer heat. A spiced plum sauce is wonderful too- I have two bottles here of Dad's own sauce. One is labelled "Thick" and the other "Hot"!

plums are delicious, when ripe and sweet.
