Garden Tuesday

This is the garden today. The spinach in the far left row is gone, or what the deer left of it is gone, and the green leaf lettuce in the left row of the right bed went to seed.

The lettuce is gone too. But it certainly looks like someone should have weeded my kitchen.

Actually, the piggies loved the lettuce leaves below the seeds. It was much to bitter for us humans.

And here's another gate for you. It's wrought iron lilies. Isn't it beautiful? Just one of the joys of living in an 80 year old house - unusual, pretty things!

Beautiful gate!

Pigs aren't picky critters, are they? At least, ours weren't.

Now THAT is a cool gate. Very unique, and homemade-ish, and country gardenesque. I really like it. I also envy your garden.

Oh my gosh, how great that your little guinea piggies got to eat the bitter greens. My lettuce is shot too, and actually turned bitter just before going to seed. I really miss it; I loved having fresh lettuce everyday. Your tomato plants are enormous! Have any shown signs of changing colors? When they do, you are going to have a boatload of tomatoes! That gate is gorgeous, as is everything with your house!

I thought of you last weekend. We went for a hike (ugh, the things I do for my hubby) and came across 4 young teenagers having a picnic. This is the part that reminded me of you. These young kids (ages 12 - 17) hiked in a full picnic, and were eating off of real china plates with real silverware and cloth napkins, real glassware, and ... are you ready for this ... a tall layer cake on a glass cake stand! I was so impressed that not only did they go on a hike, but they also hauled in some pretty heavy items to have a first class picnic in the gorgeous forest. I thought, this is Marjie's kind of picnic! :-)

What a lovely gate. Can't wait to see it in person.

I think this weekend I'm going to rip what's left of the summer garden and plant some winter crops - lettuce, onions, garlic, maybe more carrots and beets.

I picked carrots today to put in tonight's soup. My herbs are out of control. g

Wow, that gate is pure Art Noveau, perfectly matching your home's age.

Lucky little guinea pigs! Or do you have full sized pigs too?

What a lovely old gate. When I was a teenager we lived in a house built before the Civil War. It was a neat old house.
