Kitchen Update

How long does it take to plug in 2 new stoves? Maybe an hour or 2, right, including taking the old ones to the porch?

Wrong. Try 9 very grumpy Dan hours. The new stoves were about 1/2" narrower than the old ones, so he had to uninstall the dishwashers, replace the subflooring because he didn't like it, repaint the grubby walls, and then put the stoves back in place after sliding the counters around just a touch so all the extra space was on one side of one stove. He still needs to replace that piece of countertop, but it's better than disassembling the sink and replacing both counters!

Ad don't they look pretty! I'm trying out the convection baking feature, and will give an update and report on these stoves. Note: These are "European convection ovens" and evidently that means there's a third heating element along with the air circulating fan. Of course, the manufacturer supplied no information other than how to turn it on, so the learning curve will be pretty steep. Any and all guidance will be appreciated.
The dishwasher is not yet installed. I believe my appliance man is "not in the mood" right now. And they say women are moody! Still, he is a great guy.

My old stoves, which work just great, will be donated to whichever charity will come pick them up. I don't believe in discarding perfectly good things.

oh I hate when things last that much longer then anticipated.

Appliances tick me off. They never go as expected. When you estimate 2 hours, you should add about 6 to that.

Wow, what a hubby!! I have a convection oven, and other than baking cookies in 5 minutes, I haven't figured out what to do with it. I'll be paying close attention!

Seems like every 30 minute job I do takes several hours as things always goes wrong - something breaks, don't fit, need special tool, etc, etc, etc. I understand his pain and haven't had it happen to me since about 3 hours ago.

I understand. When Rob replaced the faucet in the kitchen he assured me it would take about an hour. It took two days and included much grumbling and sending me to fetch various tools.

Oh, yuck. It stinks when jobs take that much longer than they should. How awesome though to have brand new appliances! I didn't realize you have two ovens as well as all the dishwashers. Wow. Very nice!

Poor Dan :) My oven that was installed here had masses of instructions, but all in languages other that English! I also had to find out how it all worked by trial and error. It adds to the excitement!! Diane

Full sympathy and understanding to dear Dan - the sort of small measurement differences that have the practically talented and skilled like Dan feeling frustrated at the very least!

Marjie- from what you have written I believe my Folks' oven is the same sort. I will check out the oven info when up there over Xmas and report back. I know their full on fan bake is very different from their previous stove/cooker which they can't get back - its in my kitchen and I'm not giving it up!

The convection only is safest for now for your bread and cake baking. More soon .....

Good thing I already knew what was in this post. Couldn't read much for the misty eyes. I've already been worked up over Fred today (it's also the anniversary of my wreck with Mugsy), and your precious header did me in.

Ugh isn't it always the way, DIY type things really stress me out. Partly I think because I am a control freak and you end up feeling really reliant on tradesmen.

I feel the same about mechanical things with my car lol! :-)

Your kitchen looks lovely though!

DIY jobs ALWAYS take so much longer than anticipated - blech !

DH wants a new stove and we're looking at the convections. Maybe I can get him to change out the kitchen counters and the sink at the same time - otherwise, can I borrow Dan ?

I'd be moody after 9 hours too but what a terrific job he did - your kitchen looks great!
