Garden Tuesday: Planting!

This is what we started with this weekend. 2 square feet of chives, and a couple of onions the boys missed last fall sprouting back up.
My dearly beloved laughed at me for carrying my seeds around in a basket. I told him I'm not a good enough juggler to carry them in my hands.
I've cut chives already, and had better hurry to do so again, before those flowers bloom and release 4 million chive seeds. Then my yard will smell of onions forever.
I found these seeds, dyed different colors, entertaining. I know it's strange.
And now, we've planted. And by "we", I mean that I'm a great supervisor. I don't bend, and I don't play in the dirt. So now we wait for lettuce, spinach, many varieties of tomato, 3 kinds of squash, green onions, cucumbers....

Send those boys over here to help get mine going ... and by mine, I'm referring to my kids! :-) Actually, it's been monsooning here, so there's no action whatsoever in my garden. Hopefully next week will bring warmer temps and dryer skies. Can't wait to see your garden start sprouting and producing! (I love having lettuce right out of the garden!)

I love that your boys do the planting for you. If I wasn't gone so much in the summer I would plant a garden too.

Colour coded seeds? That is interesting. I have never seen a garden planted in squares like that. Will make a nice patchwork when mature.

We had pumpkins growing in our front yard, until Ben killed them!

We can only plant those crops in fall; around this time, SoCal goes crazy with tomatoes and basil and peppers. Backyard will soon smell like pizza.

How exciting, Marjie. Having helpers reminds me of when I was a kid. We did all the work and my father would proudly show off his garden. "Look at those tomatoes he would always say." Of course, it was I who had removed every tomato horn worn!

Oh Happy Day, Marjie. Bake a Cake!!! Thanks for sharing...

Fingers crossed for lots of sunshine and only rain at night over your summer. The boys look to be doing a great job there.

Planting is a good job for young, agile backs and they learn a little something in the process. Good luck with the garden.

You have very industrious children to make that garden happen for you. I don't bend over and play in the dirt either, but we have no garden. I am looking forward to the results you get this year.

Isn't it great when you can walk out to the backyard and pick veggies for supper ?

I only planted herbs last year and surprisingly, they've all come back ! I've tried peppers a few time but not much luck with them. I'm thinking I'll put in a couple of tomato plants this year.
