Book Sale Time!

And, so, as usual, it was off to one of the book sales with us. The other is next week. I found a couple of cookbooks, of course, and if I don't love them, I'll pass them on. But at a buck a book, how could I not support this adorable little library?
The boys each got a few books, and a photographer from the newspaper was wandering through. Evidently he thought my little guy was cute selecting books, because he took a picture. (Of course, I think he's cute. Especially when he selects the biography of President Eisenhower written by David Eisenhower because he likes long biographies.)

I saw some daffodils (although we don't have any), the lawn is finally green, we have pretty purple flowers in the lawn along with the dead leaves that didn't get cleaned up after they fell in the snowstorm at Halloween, and I got to take the Mark V out for his inaugural ride this spring. Yes, I cautiously believe spring is in the air. And if I get snowed on for saying that, I'm going to be mightily honked off.

One of my sons told me recently that I should write a college kid cookbook, because many of his friends can't figure out how to feed themselves after they get apartments, except with Ramen noodles and fast food. Any ideas or suggestions? For all the young folks out there who don't read what I have to say anyway, what would you like to see if I did write it?

And, now, with new cookbooks in hand, I'm off to do the obvious: sew!

Any cookbook you might write would be much desired at my house, although I'm hardly a college kid.

I think foods that mama used to make that are quick and require relatively few basic ingredients would be a good start...

Sounds like a fun day at the library. I love that your littlest guy reads such "big" books! Let us know if his picture gets in the paper! I'll keep my fingers crossed that Spring has indeed arrived for you. Love that you got to take your fun wheels out for a Springtime ride! Thanks so much for your msgs. Regarding the cookbook, I'd suggest putting in your Taco/Taco Bar recipe. It's a great one that college age kids can prepare not only for themselves, but for their friends, too. Also, your meatball recipes ... from appetizers to main dish ... are so versatile. Kids can eat them as is, with sauce, on hoagie, etc. They are economical, too. Your beef strips (with pineapple and tomatoes, I think) that you serve with rice is another great recipe for students. Plus, it reheats really well. Your chicken soup, the one you made when your tooth was acting up, is something that would get made often, I'm sure. I'm sure I'll think of more stuff.

I've mentioned before, I have gathered about 260 cook books over the years- a large percentage of them were used books. Who cares! Some are probably collectable... Old church cookbooks are of special interest..

A good starter cookbook is "The Four Ingredient Cookbook".. Even a kid can make those recipes...

I love getting new books. They all look like they will be great. Spring is in the air today - it's supposed to be 80 so we are heading to the zoo.

I think you should totally do a cookbook for college kids - they would love you!

I think writing a cookbook for coleege students is a fabulous and unique idea. You'll have so much fun doing this!

I am a current college student, and, with all due consideration to my fellow starving colleagues, we definitely need a decent college cookbook; something that inspires our experimentation as well as something that keeps us nourished at a sustainable, reasonable cost. My suggestion would be few ingredients, ingredients that can be stored for large amounts of time that can serve as a base for anything we can pick up at the local grocery store. Also include a short section on basic cooking such as cooking times, temperatures, safe handling procedures, etc. I'm sure it would do well, and while none of us college manly men would ever dare admit to using a cookbook (We'd swear on our lives it's natural culinary talent to impress the ladies), I'm sure if you follow these basic rules a copy of your cookbook will be stashed surreptitiously under the bed or in the bathroom sink cabinet in every male-dominated dormitory across America!
