The Pumpkin Patch

Every year, when the spirit moves us, we take the kids to the pumpkin farm. The spirit moved us on Wednesday, because, although it was cloudy, it was 62 degrees - nearly unbelievably warm for late October. They had some handsome giant pumpkins on the front porch of the barn this year.

You can take the hay ride to the field to pick your own, but the boys wanted to just browse the ones behind the barn. I'm grateful that they did; it's always windy and cold on top of the hill. I'm also glad they didn't want one of the white or bluish pumpkins; they look kind of moldy to me.
The farm had mini pumpkins and gourds arrayed in this old sleigh. I'm glad we have enclosed, heated transportation in this day and age.
The rule is that you can have any pumpkin you can carry. Mark struggled a little with carrying a 20 pound pumpkin.

Ryan also chose a 20 pounder, and had no problem with it. Of course, he's a moose, isn't he?

Time to pay for these beauties, and then head home! Carving and pumpkin seeds may be on the agenda tonight or tomorrow! Happy Halloweening, everyone!

Looks like halloween is at hand. Just up US 411 a little toward Maryville is a pumpkin field where the plants have all died and now it's just full of orange.

I have not weighed any of my pumpkins from the garden but I don't think they come close to those! Diane

Wow! Mark is getting so big. I remember how little they where when I first found you. You were asking about your green drapes. What did you ever do about that? g

We just went to the pumpkin patch too. Fun times.

I just spent the last half hour cleaning out the guts from 4 pumpkins so we can carve them tonight.

Happy Halloween!!!

20-punders? I want to see the finished products. (That's one healthy, handsome family you've got there.)

And the news around here was warning of puny pumpkins this year! Clearly, if we'd import from the north... ;)

Mark IS tall, but he's also polite and takes decent photos.

I carved one of those bluish ones this morning in my preschool class. It had a most wonderful fragrance and my local pumpkin farmer tells me this variety makes the best pumpkin pies. I think I believe him. The flesh inside was dense as well as thick-walled (up to and more than 2 inches thick in spots). However, I do agree they look moldy on the outside!

Did you per chance visit Strawberry Acres? Looks like a place a few miles from where I live. Hope you lots of fun.

No punkin' pickin' for me this year. The boys sure have grown and handsome too:)

Have FUN! Boy, I'd love to be a fly on the wall while those pumpkins get a makeover. May I ask, did Thor get a pumpkin too?

Thanks for sharing, Marjie...
